The return of Superboy! Superboy-Prime, that is! The grasp of BLACKEST NIGHT knows no bounds, and it is now at the doorstep of Superboy-Prime. Believe it or not, Prime has met his match. The Black Lanterns know his deepest, darkest secrets and force Prime to feel emotions he's long discarded. Plus, in the Legion of Super-Heroes co-feature, Dawnstar is on the trail of the person or people who have been causing so much trouble for the Legion. But does she get too close to the truth? Her Legion teammate Wildfire comes to her rescue, but are the duo able to discover just who is behind this villainous plot to destroy the known universe?
A pleasantly surprising piece of metafiction delivered ably by Johns and Gates made this, hands down, the best comic of the week. While the amazing lead feature has the regrettable side effect of eclipsing the Legion back-up, it's so good that I just didn't care. Highly recommended. Read Full Review

While this issue of Adventure Comics does offer some funny fourth-wall bending moments, I would have rather read a continuation of Johns' and Manapul's Connor Kent storyline and gone without my Blackest Night fix for this week. I'm hopeful that Alexander Luthor's "spoiler alert" at the end of this issue will bear fruit but I'm certainly not holding my breath. Read Full Review

One of the best parts of the Legion has always been the relationships of the characters. This was a nice little story focusing on four Legionnaires and their romantic conundrums. I thought this was great. So half good ... half bad. It is a shame that the Conner story was sidelined in this title; I was really enjoying it. Read Full Review
In the end, it's the second feature and Ordway's pencils that make me interested in seeing "Adventure Comics" #5. And who knows, maybe the character of Superboy-Prime will finally get retired at that point. I don't hate the character, but I do think it's a joke that needs to be put away for good. The good news with this comic is that many stores offer you one of the colored rings with this issue's purchase. More good news is if you are a hardcore DC fan and know all of the ins and outs of the DCU then you might love the satire and the heavy handed jokes as Superboy gets kicked around by Earth Prime (or is it Earth-2?) characters. However, I found this issue to be confusing at best and a wasteful mess at worst in the story department. I'm simply baffled that this issue hopes to gain some new readers with this type of material.
