As far as the Rotworld story arc is considered, this is by far the most action packed and shocking issue to date. The next issues looks to be final conclusion to Rotworld and is already shaping up to be a must read. The ending has a "holy crap" quality to it that puts the outcome of Buddy's quest seriously in doubt. The Rot is profane, and in his climax, Lemire has it taint the purest iconography in comics. This issue was mainly build up for the final battle next issue; which happens to include some familiar faces on the opposition side. However, that is not to say that this was a bad issue, in fact it was a very good issue. Some plot points came together which helped to make sense of what has happened on the planet. Overall, we get another solid installment in this event. Though I'll admit I am finding myself a bit weary of “Rotworld,” and I look forward to see where Lemire will take this title once Buddy comes back from this event. The cameo-powered climax of Rotworld may still be lurking in the future, but this month's installment of Animal Man is a tale worth your money. The final page promises that "The final battle begins!" next issue -- not that it's the conclusion, but that the conclusion is about to begin. I guess it's too easy to make fun, but I will say that at least this series is a $2.99 title and every time I think about dropping it I read a new issue and stay on for the ride -- that is, until they unceremoniously assign a new writer to the book and I'll be free forever. So, as Rotworld continues we are given a massive action packed issue that moves the plot forward and has a few big moments. It is entertaining and looks great due to Pugh's work. However this epic is lacking the depth and complexity the title usually delivers. Therefore the high stakes lack the emotional context to make you care about any of it. Read Full Review
