Animal Man truly is one of a kind. Its a book with so much character driven emotion, which also has a compelling mythology and terrifying antagonists. It looks like nothing else on the stands as Foreman delivers a tour de force in the horrific. Lemire has captured lightning in a bottle. The cover is probably the weakest part of the issue. Honestly, it's a little bland next to the issue itself. And yes, the cover does feature a zombified little girl eating her father's face. It troubles your mind and stomach for all the right reasons. This series continues to hold you in its grip as it gradually progresses to the inevitable crossover with Swamp Thing, the very idea of which grows more exciting with every issue. Read Full Review
"Animal Man" has been good month after month, but this latest installment (even with the slightly weak final line to lead into an eventual cross-over) helps solidify everything we've seen up until this point. I really enjoy this book. Travel Foreman and Jeff Lemire come together to make a haunting and very unique book. I love seeing the world of the Rot, and overall, think it's one of my favorite villains of the new 52. As much as I enjoyed the story, I think it's the art that stands out the most though. The only real problem I have is while this is an amazing book, personally, I'm not in love with it like so many other people are, but I do understand the appeal. With that said, Animal Man #5 is still a fantastic conclusion to this book's first arc. Lemire has set the groundwork for the upcoming Animal Man/Swamp Thing crossover, and that foundation is looking very solid. I can't wait to see where this book goes next. Read Full Review
Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman have created one of the creepiest books from DC right now. There is just enough of a Vertigo taste wrapped up in Animal Man #5 to show you can do fantastic horror with characters who run around in their long johns. It does not try to hide what it is. Usually you want to hide your cards but Lemire and Foreman show you just how far they'll so to make you scared about what you can see as much as you're scared about what you cannot. Read Full Review
