It's a perfect introductory story to the DCU for kids, but there's enough to chew on in this book to make it a perfect all-ages story that reminds me in tone of the best Pixar movies. The art style is the right combo of cartoony and expressive, and DC has a trio of bold new talents in the creative team. Anti Herois a fun and empowering read for young girls and is a great addition to DC Kids' lineup of graphic novels. While I wanted more from it, its charisma and levity while also touching an some deeper class issues is heartening to read at a time like this. Delivering new, unique characters like these is a much stronger way for DC to appeal to younger readers than some of their other young reader-oriented offerings that had more DC names on the cover but less connection to the universe (looking at you, Super Sons). Not bad. Kind of like DC's attempt at the Ms. Marvel or Squirrel Girl demographic. Do these new characters have a future in the DC Universe? Probably not more than a background character, or maybe they could be on the Teen Titans at one point, but most likely they will just keep appearing in more of these middle grade graphic novels.
