Doc Savage and The Spirit have followed the Blackhawks to Hidalgo, but the Red Hand stands between them and the murderous Anton Colossi who's busy breaking bread with his dear friend Bruce Wayne! And when Doc's newfound fortune is stolen as quickly as it was discovered, it'll take another uneasy truce between The Avenger and Doc's crew of compatriots to track it down!
Rags Morales' art continues to impress. His slightly exaggerated but highly detailed pencils fit in very well with the pulp aesthetic and retro-future tone of the series. Morales' line-work is a bit less precise and defined than it has been, though. The truly worrisome quality with this mini-series is that it doesn't seem poised to reach a satisfying and conclusive finale in two issues. This wouldn't have been a problem in the days when First Wave was still planned as an ongoing, but with the future uncertain beyond issue #6 First Wave needs to overcome its pacing problems and find a proper resting point. Despite delays, "First Wave" #4 continues to build on the previous issues as it combines the seemingly disparate narratives into a cohesive one. The construction of this series has been interesting to watch play out and, with two issues left to go, how Azzarello and Morales tie everything together by the end will be exciting to see.
