I love the idea that the Spectre could be returning to form, as the opening pages of this issue do a wonderful job of capturing his give no quarter, take no prisoner approach style that really opened my eyes to the character in the early 1990s. I mean I've never been a huge fan of the grim and gritty characters, as the Punisher and Wolverine have never really grabbed my attention, but the Spectre was more along the lines of one of those good old fashioned EC horror comics and I welcome a return of this element of the character. The issue also does a pretty solid job of showing Hourman adjusting to his new life in the present day, as he picks up exactly where he left off, by avoiding the potentially emotionally heated moments, and instead throwing himself headlong into his war on crime. There's also some nice work on Doctor Mid-Nite as we get a pretty good look at the world he's set up for himself outside of the JSA.
