This western-inspired trickster warrior is a lot of fun, and his sarcastic, ambiguous style makes a great contrast to Rocket's newfound intensity. Along the way, we're introduced to a major player from the Milestone Universe's past, a new team is formed, and the first big battle is set up. Illidge is doing some really interesting stuff here. The next chapter of Milestone hits readers with a solid opening volume. Illidges great writing focuses on Rockets journey while setting up the main plots. The art splits between the fallout of recent events and giving each key player enough time to connect with readers. If youre new to this line, theres no better jump on point than this issue. Milestone Universe: The Shadow Cabinet #1turns up the heat when Rocket must contend with untouchable criminals and a new super team from parts unknown. Joseph Illidge keeps the spirit of Milestone alive with a well-paced, action-packed issue, and the art team's delivery is on-point. That said, the script spends too much time establishing a status quo for Rocket without defining a goal or stakes for the story, so there's no hook to grab you.6/10 Read Full Review
Excellent storytelling, interesting characters, and solid art. I worry this gem might vanish under the waves of endless Bat-books, but I'm certainly pulling for it
The art is fine at times and at others the anatomy and facial expressions go wonky. The dialogue is also great in parts and then in others sounds clumsy and repetitive. "Quite the yawn" & "Quite the pork chop"???? There is such potential here but it feels cut short by somewhat gauche storytelling in certain parts of the book. It may just be me but I don't think a single villain on that train has ever seen ten billion dollars let alone would be invited to bid on something so out of their league. Millions? Maybe. Hopefully the story goes better in future issues.
