Feb 25, 2026This book is split into three acts with a prelude and epilogue, and somehow it never feels disjointed. Each creative team brings their own flavor while staying locked into the same emotional and thematic rhythm. The art balances intimacy and scale beautifully quiet moments hit just as hard as the explosive ones. This is a collaboration in the truest sense of the word. New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident #1 is a landmark comic. It fixes history without erasing it. It connects Milestone and DC with intention. And it sets the stage for stories that actually matter. This isn’t nostalgia bait. This is forward motion. Milestone is home. Dakota City is central. And the spark is ready to burn again. Overall, this issue has to do an incredible amount of heavy lifting to create a new status quo with a ton to explore, and that means it has to rush some segments, but there are some incredible ideas in this. I just wonder when we’re going to see all the implications followed up on. Read Full Review

Mar 03, 2026DC has been keeping these Milestone characters to the side for one reason or another while sporadically sprinkling them into titles. But I'm so glad they're deciding to hopefully take them seriously and do something with them going forward. This is the best way to do that and implement them in a way that canonically could make sense too. I want to see more books with people like Hardware getting another shot with a singles book. Or why continue showing us the vigilant ejustice being dealt out by the Blood Syndicate that ess already started in "Milestone Returns"? The options are limitless and I hope they capitalize on this. Feb 25, 2026I’m honestly not 100% certain what hardcore Milestone fans will think of this book. But for my money, it was a good story. It’s a tragedy that highlights the determination of the Dakota heroes and captures the unfairness of how they were left behind. This book does have an interesting energy to it, making one feel like DC really does want to bring this world back (especially in the wake of Static returning). Maybe we’ll see more Milestone down the line, but for right now, this one-shot is an effective tribute to an underrated era of superhero comics. Read Full Review
