  "Night Force" #1 has a good enough opening script, but it's the art that makes me dying to see more. Mandrake is an artist who deserves to be a superstar (the lack of a definitive collection of his and John Ostrander's "The Spectre" run saddens me and my bookshelf). He's just that good. Come for the premise of "Night Force," but definitely stay for the art. Read Full Review

  Marv Wolfman is no stranger to DC, hes written everything from Batman to Teen Titans, to Deathstroke to the original Night Force series. Fans of Tom Mandrake will remember him from the pages of The Spectre. Mandrake has a unique horror style with twisted nightmarish panels, terrifying shadows & beady little eyes on the more darker characters. I havent decided if Ill continue with this title, but it helps that its a mini-series. Read Full Review

  Tom Mandrake's art doesn't help the situation. The lack of consistency in the work is staggering. On some pages the pencils are nicely done, strong lines, good use of shading, and a real excellent nod to noir. In others it looks like bad Mad Magazine rips offs. From page to page, there is no stability of form. Night Force comes across like Mandrake tried one day and didn't the next. The uneven art hurts an already uneven story. The return of Night Force isn't a bad thing, it just isn't anything to get excited about. Read Full Review

  I don't want to go so far as to call this a bad comic, but it certainly isn't a good one. Perhaps it will be more entertaining to those who read the previous two volumes of "Night Force," but I do not have any personal nostalgia riding on this series. I might end up coming back for the second issue, but if I do, it will be more from a respect for Marv Wolfman as one of the most influential writers of the 80′s than from any particularly positive quality of this issue.
