Disney and Dynamite proudly present Maleficent, Queen of the Forbidden Mountain! Her realm is shrouded in darkness, and evil, and full of all things that go bump in the night. Her soul is cold, hardened by a lifetime of small-minded wanderers seeking to steal her powers to satisfy their mortal greed. Her patience wears thin. Her mystical might grows. It is a matter only of time before she descends the mountain and unleashes her horrible magics upon the powerless people below. A stunning vision of villainy from writer and artist Soo Lee!

All in all, this is a good first issue for any story and I'm excited to see more by the talented Soo Lee and Co. I know I mentioned it at the beginning but it makes me very happy seeing that a single person wrote and illustrated the whole comic. In a world ruled by corporations (Disney is one of the biggest), it is still a joy to see a single artist take on a full project and deliver quality, creativity, and passion. Read Full Review

DISNEY VILLAINS: MALEFICENT #1 delivers a pitch-perfect capsule tale about a reckless young man who encounters the world's most powerful sorceress. The tone, style, and vibe of the story match Maleficent to a tee, and the ironic ending reminds readers what a villain can do when provoked. That said, the art lacks a significant amount of spit and polish. Read Full Review

Disney Villains: Maleficent #1 presents a version of Maleficent seen through the eyes of a young boy. She is still very mysterious and intimidating. It is unclear though how this story will connect to the movie or if well learn more about this new character in the coming issues. Those who werent as thrilled about Jolies version will be glad to know this story doesnt force the reader to sympathize with Maleficent, but on the other hand, it doesnt tell us much about her either. Hopefully future issues will have a bit more character development and present more connections to the original movie. Fans of Disney villains, and in particular, Maleficent, will still enjoy it though. Read Full Review
