I loved this issue even more than the first, mainly because of the twist. We find out that Thom learned the story from Cremp herself; after seeing what Tarkin was willing to do, she defected to the Rebellion. The issue made me expect the monster to be the monster, but the monster ended up being Tarkin himself. In hindsight, the twist makes a lot of sense, since the series is focusing on villains, but I didn't realize it. And at the end, we get another twist: Thom manages to escape his shackles, and the issue ends with him on the run within the Castle. Cavan again proves that he's an amazing Star Wars author; this series is stepping it up yet again. A horror series with real twists that I didn't see coming, with spooky art. I can't wait for #3. This chapter really encapsulates everything that Return to Vader's Castle sets out to accomplish, delivering a somewhat younger-skewing adventure that offers genuine frights while also mirror the signature tone of the galaxy far, far away. Read Full Review

    SciFiPulse - Patrick Hayes Oct 13, 2019

The story places Tarkin in the role of Doctor Frankenstein and his creation wants payback. There aren't any surprises to this tale, though it's still fun to read. The visuals by Jones and Madsen are the reason to pick this up, and they make the monster look tremendous. I'm really not liking Francavilla's contributions, which look rushed. If you're a Star Wars fan, you should enjoy this. Read Full Review

Sometimes something really wonderful happens, and it happened here with the second issue of Star Wars Vaders Castle. That something is Kelley Jones.
No spoiling Cavan Scotts wonderful and tight little tale, but Jones brings a charge to Star Wars that I haven't seen in a long time.It FEELS like Star Wars and has the great scope of the early classic films.Tarkin is brilliantly depicted in story and art, and makes one wish that Lucasfilm would hire Jones to do something on an epic scale with the classic universe.Michelle Madsen colors on this are so striking that it is a wonder to experience...from her delicious work on the characters to the almost 'hear' it sound on the expulsions and action.
    Buy it and relish it.
