Comic Book Clique - Russell Hartman

Escape #7 is one of the best issues of the entire run. Rick Remender and Daniel Acuña’s anthropomorphic war saga is one of the best series of the year. Milton Shaw’s journey has brought him into the heart of the enemy and in the face of insurmountable odds, we are rewarded with one of the best single issues of the year. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke

Escape #7 continues the series’ streak as one of the most gripping war comics on shelves today. Rick Remender sharpens the tension by trapping Milton inside enemy territory while layering in psychological turmoil and brutal combat. Daniel Acuña’s art remains astonishing throughout, elevating every explosion, stare, and desperate act of violence into something cinematic and emotionally raw. The issue rewards longtime readers with meaningful payoffs while pushing the story toward what feels like an explosive turning point. Read Full Review

And thus begins a new plot arc for the series. It's remarkable how tight the series has been. Remender isn't allowing things to barrel across the page with a great degree of speed. The basic plot elements are slowly marched across the series. This allows a single series of days to play out with a great degree of detail in and around the edges of every single scene. All too often in the course of history war comic books have handled long campaigns in a way that feels like an overview rather than along, and agonizing marched through the trenches. Escape attempts to view war through the long, slow march of impending doom. It’s powerful stuff. Read Full Review
