‘The End of All Things,' part nine got the blood pumping when you were looking for the next bad thing. Surprisingly they grabbed us through a character moment that couldn't have been done any other way than through a passing of the torch. Again, I was pretty sure that I knew this was coming, and it still hurt to read. After more than ten years, Nolan is like a friend to me (a scary, possibly maniacal alien overlord friend, but a friend nonetheless), leaving Invincible #141 as a heart-rending bit of story, deftly delivered with strong art. The end of a important character but without the emotional appeal I was expecting.
