The artwork for this comic is exquisite. You simply find yourself wanting to frame some of the images. The clear Japanese influence on the art makes it only more delightful. Simply put each drawing is a piece of art. I love it. Read Full Review

Monstress continues to move at a really good pace, one that's almost a bit disconcerting after the first six issues of the series. There was so much in there with so many locations and characters that it was overwhelming in all the right ways to hook you. Here, with its smaller focus and slower pace, we get a better look at where Maika is now and the dynamic between her and her compatriots as well as how they come across to others. I really like the crew of this ship, which means we're going to lose some of them to be sure, but Liu and Takeda do so much in such little space to make us care about them and become invested in them that it reminds you how poorly so many other books out there are doing it. Overall, I feel very intrigued with whats to come in Monstress after reading this issue. The story is building and we have been given some interesting nuggets of information that have left us with a lot of unanswered questions. Im curious and want to know more about this skeleton key and the links it has to Maikas mother and I cant wait to see what they will find at the Isle of Bones. I look forward to reading the next issue and discovering the answers to these questions. Read Full Review

All in all, Monstress #8 was a bit of a lull but still a good read. I'll happily continue to recommend this comic to anyone. Read Full Review

A bit of a bump, but it still features gorgeous art and some great character work, really excited to see what comes of this.

A great issue here that especially does a nice job of handling Maika's character, in particular. She continues to be written very well, in my opinion. Though, I'm also really enjoying the world-building being done here, as well as the ongoing drama with Maika's aunt. Oh, and the tension between Maika and the crew on the ship is good, as well.

A bit of a placeholder issue, but digs us a little deeper into Maika's world and the mysteries she is pursuing. Strong on character and an absolute beauty to behold.
