Gangsters, hillbillies, and werewolves make for quite the winning combination. The second issue of Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso's latest features rich characters, a classic backwoods setting, and plenty of supernatural horror. It's pretty unorthodox, but it works thanks to Azzarello's great script ("We wanna git in bed with Mista Pirlo!") and Risso's stellar work. Read Full Review

The book almost feels like the first season of HBO's True Detective in the sense that maybe there's a little more style than there is substance at this point. But if you like Azzarello's writing, have some faith, I'm sure he's got something big planned here, and if you just like good clean artwork, pick up Moonshine #2 right away, it won't disappoint. With Moonshine finally tipping its hand, its going to be really interesting to see where Azzarello takes the story from here. The pieces as damaged and unlikeable as they ultimately are have all been placed on the board, and now its time to see how this bizarre and intriguing situation unfolds. One thing's for sure, though, with sharp characterization, an authentically grounded feel and a wonderfully executed horror twist, Moonshine is a title that flat-out demands your attention. Moonshine #2 is a great book if you are looking for a good horror read. I really enjoy a good werewolf story whether it be a book, movie or whatever type of media and it can be an easy one to screw up. The werewolf design is good by my standards, it has a that monster look you need for a werewolf story (I have wasted a lot of my life thinking about werewolves). I do kind of wish they would have held off on showing the full werewolf maybe for another issue. I enjoyed how we were just getting glimpses of it. I am interested to see were Lou goes from the end of this issue and how this book will continue to play out. Read Full Review
This story of the prohibition business (and werewolves) continues in great fashion with mystery, intrigue, and totally stunning Eduardo Risso art. Cool comic.
