First and last, "Prophet" is about landscape and history, about a longer epic journey within worlds that are old to John Prophet but new to the reader. The creative team's aesthetic choices make "Prophet" very still, very quiet. A lot of the comic is taken up by text boxes with enigmatic, poetic prose that requires the concentration and listening that poetry usually does. Despite all the action scenes, "Prophet" is not an action book -- it's a story in which action occurs like ripples on the surface of a lake, stretching soundlessly to fill the horizon. All this being said, there is definitely some improvement. more than the varied colors, the focus on specific characters is beginning to give Prophet something to root its story in. If this continues, I may very well find myself deeply enjoying Prophet in the future. Read Full Review

Overall, this book prides itself on its uniqueness and esotericism. Graham's complete and enamored dedication to the Prophet universe is a blessing and a curse. Its blessing is that it takes you on a faithful and realized journey that never becomes inconsistent with its characters and universe. Unfortunately, it refuses to slow down and its intricate plot lines can make it difficult for new readers to really sink their teeth into any one issue. For those that have been regularly following Prophet, reaching Earth seems to be the overarching goal of this title and we are finally starting to see some inkling as for what Brandon Graham has in store. In fact — and this may sound like unusual praise, but in all honesty I wasn't expecting to be giving it — one of the best things I have to say about the book is that it doesn't really matter whether you have all the background or understand everything that's going on. The world of Prophet is far less interested in explaining itself than in going about the business of doing what it's doing.
