Palmiotti and Gray pull out all the stops, along with the art team, to build a world that feels lived-in and on the edge of survival. Character introductions and world building carry the narrative rather than a compelling plot. The issue struggles visually, but it’s not a deal breaker. Really enjoyed this. In Denver, It’s adult, it’s erotic, it’s violent, and it hums with the pulse of something alive and dangerous. A welcome rupture in the endless parade of capes and clichés. I’ll be back for more. ...and holy crap, that cliff hanger. What a tease.

Plot
Max Flynn is a Coast Guard officer in Denver, Colorado, one of the few cities that survived a 1,500-meter tidal surge that wiped out almost the entire population of the planet after a meteorite crashed on the moon.
Flynn is responsible for protecting those who arrive on this shore seeking to become part of this community in a complex world where compassion and human empathy are almost nonexistent, and violence in Denver is rampant.
Max visits his eldest daughter at college, and they go to dinner at his house when they discover that Max's new wife is gagged and bound by a group of hooded figures. They take her away and leave Max immobilized with a gas, intending to blackmail him for favors within the Coast Guard more -
