It's nice to see Giuseppe Camuncoli being employed effectively on the book. Camuncoli's harsh, jagged figure work isn't always the best fit for Spidey's world, but in a darker setting like this it works very well. Another fun-fuelled issue filled with humour, action & suspense. Watching Spider-Man & The Human Torch bicker like an old married couple was hilarious. Sholly Fisch provides another Steel back-up story which shows him cleaning up Metropolis while the big guy is out of town. What I truly enjoy about Rags Morales' artwork is when you arrive at the panel of a page layout where there is a shocking reveal; Morales captures these moments with an essence that is few and far between in comic books today. Amazing Spider-Man #681 was another fun issue from one of Marvels best series. The story in this issue helps to further the upcoming End of the Earth event while delivering a fun team-up with Human Torch. The bantering back and forth between Spider-Man and the Human Torch is what carried this issue. With how the story ended I am more excited for the new Spider-Man event. Read Full Review

The story beats of Amazing Spider-Man #681 are there like the ingredients of many superhero comics. The mixture however has an average finish, like getting a decent meal at a chain restaurant when we are really craving–and should be demanding–a higher caliber dining experience. Superhero comics are very much like chain restaurants. There's nothing particularly wrong with them, but sometimes our dining dollars, much like our comics dollars, are not getting their full value. For its value, comfort food satisfies a craving for being soothed or placated. But good healthy eating does so much more: satisfying our craving while also rewarding our palettes. I've been pretty forgiving of Amazing Spider-Man because of how great Slott's work has been, but the past few issues have been quite ordinary, and I'm not willing to shell out $3.99 for that. The verdict might be a little harsher than this book deserves, but I know that Slott and company can do so much better. Hopefully the teaser at the end delivers some more exciting stuff soon, otherwise I'll be moving on from biweekly webheaded adventures. Read Full Review
