While many event comics these days start off with a big opening salvo and a B-list casualty, Dan Slott and Stefano Caselli trust in their product enough to simply make the stakes bigger. Spider-Man will always innovate, always improvise, but the nature of his character means that in the right hands, Marvel will never need to reinvent the wheel to sell his stories. We get almost as much facetime with Peter Parker in this installment as we do with Spider-Man, but Caselli and Slott effortlessly make those pages every bit as interesting and entertaining. This book has everything a Spider-fan could wish for: a rant from J. Jonah Jameson, heroic allies for the Webhead, a wild amount of comic book science fiction technology and a very serious threat. There's also a passing skateboarder singing R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)." See? Everything you could want to read in one great issue of "Amazing Spider-Man" plus fabulous art. Now is as good a time as any to grab a web and swing on in. Read Full Review

When it comes right down to it End of the Earth has gotten off to the right start. Amazing Spider-Man #682 delivered a different way to start an event as Dan Slott presented Doctor Octopus as both a hero and a villain. He also turned the world against Spider-Man in one quick move. Everything in this issue helped to make things a lot more mysterious in how things will end. Having Stefano Caselli on art was just icing on the cake for this great issue. If you have yet to pick up Amazing Spider-Man I highly encourage doing so because whether you are a new or old reader End of the Earth is an event that cannot be missed. Read Full Review

This arc kicks off one of the bigger Spider-Man events in a number of years (or so Marvel tells me), and considering there is a new movie coming out, Spider-Man is celebrating his 50th anniversary, and a new Spider-Man animated series kicks off next week on Disney XD, I have a feeling Slott is going to give us one heck of a ride for the next eight months. "Ends of the Earth" Part 1 isn't a blast out of the gate, but it does offer some subtle hints as to what's to come in future chapters, particularly regarding Peter's reliance on new technology and old habits. If not as grand a scale as Spider-Island (yet), this story arc appears to be aligning Peter for some heavy personal confrontations in the weeks to come. Read Full Review

Writer Dan Slott really nails the character's voice, too, by balancing the quip-fueled ADD mind of a genius with heart and valor of a hero. Although trying to keep the hero updated, Slott doesn't lose the core of the character. If you have been curious about Spider-Man, this is the issue to pick up. Read Full Review

This was a nice first issue to a story arc, but that's it. It's probably not as good as I'd hoped for, but that's to be expected when I'm not really digging on the art. But, that's a personal taste issue more than anything else. Read Full Review

If you haven't been reading ASM lately, there's a lot of good things happening here. On the other hand, if you've been faithfully following Spider-Man's exploits under Dan Slott's stewardship, it might be time for a break, because ASM #682 isn't reinventing the wheel and the ride is getting a little old.
