No need to wait for the movie to see Spider-Man wrangle the reptilian rage of one of his greatest foes! Spider-Man is stuck between two monsters when Morbius the Living Vampire attempts to cure the Lizard and restore Curt Connors.
By now, Slott has such a great handle on these characters that he could easily write them in his sleep. His Spider-Man is just an honest, heroic guy, who you can't help but root for. As for the art this issue, Giuseppe Camuncoli does an admirable job filling in for regular artists Stefano Caselli and Humberto Ramos. I really have nothing negative to say at all about this issue. It's another winner and will have you greatly anticipating the next issue. I give it an amazing 10/10! Read Full Review
Dan Slott delivers yet another kick-ass Spider-Man issue and continues to astonish readers with everyone’s favourite wall-crawling super hero. A little birdie told me that the upcoming #700 issue will be a game-changer for Spider-Man and that Slott will be a hated man. It remains to be seen. From Marvel Comics. Read Full Review
Hot Damn! This was a great comic! The twist at the end with The Lizard totally caught me off guard, and I'm a sucker for Michael Morbius, probably because he reminds me of my good buddy Vampire X! This storyline kicked things off with a bang, and I'm wondering what will happen with Curt "The Lizard" Connors does decide to strike and how Spidey will take it. I also really enjoyed the chat with Peter and MJ, it helped him realize he can't do everything and he will make mistakes, and I like the role MJ has taken as supportive best friend over love interest. All in all there's nothing about the comic I didn't enjoy. Also, the art was phenomenal. Props definitely go to Giuseppe Camuncoli for his work on this issue, the way he drew the look on Spidey's face, with one eye showing, when he found out The Lizard ate his drones was chilling. Perfect issue all around. Here's hoping the rest of this storyline is at least half as good as this issue was. Read Full Review
As much as I loved Ends of the Earth, I'm already fully on board for this new story line! I loved the start here, and I'm loving the pacing of this issue. It's a big new world after Ends of the Earth and Peter's outlook on being a hero may have changed a bit. This issue is full of twists and turns, and Dan Slott's writing is fantastic. The art team is stellar here as well. Read Full Review
Amazing Spider-Man #688, the next chapter in a stellar series of consistently great comic books. If you're not reading this book, I don't know what your problem is. Read Full Review
A few little flaws hold this back from the highest grades, but the overall story is interesting and I don't really know what'll happen next. That's always a good thing. Plus, there are some bonus points for not having a weepy wrap-up issue to Ends of the Earth. Read Full Review
Finally, the 3D is very well done and pretty amazing at times. Seeing Spider-Man swinging through Manhattan on an IMAX screen is absolutely, positively exciting and astounding. In the end, this movie is a fun, energetic summer flick, and it shouldn't be ashamed of that at all. Read Full Review
If you are on Twitter, I'd recommended following him as he converses with fans on a regular basis. Read Full Review
No Turning Back is off to a nice start but isn't without its faults. However, Slott is clearly interested in again shifting the status quo for Spider-Man and this time, it's through one of his most beloved villains. Read Full Review
Pacing-wise, this issue's great. The end twist? Superb. But in the end, Amazing Spider-Man #688 lacks the new insights to Peter Parker that has made the rest of Dan Slott's run so great. Read Full Review
It's a great time to jump into The Amazing Spider-Man. With this new story arc you can be in on the ground floor of new developments as Dan Slott works us towards the huge surprise planned for issue #700. Read Full Review
Peter is still feeling the effects of Silver Sable's death. The amount of character development is one of the few saving graces of Ends Of The Earth, and No Turning Back looks to be keeping it up as well. Read Full Review
Even with some problems with the story structure and artwork Amazing Spider-Man #688 was a fun read. Dan Slott nails all of the characterization he gives the characters in this issue. From start to finish this issue is able to get the reader invested in Spider-Mans battles, both personal and physical. This issue also serves as a great epilogue to End of the Earth as we get to see Peter dealing with the fallout from that story. With how this issue ended and what the cover shows for the next issue the battle looks to only have begun for Spider-Man, which means more fun for us. Read Full Review
Marvel has gotten considerably more savvy about their comics offering up tie-ins and relevant parallels to the products based in other media bearing their brands, but this issue really doesn't do much to sell the Lizard to moviegoers considering a career change toward comic readers. It's quick-moving and packs a surprise ending, sure, but it lacks the enthusiasm and show-stopping art that gateway comic books need to showcase in order to entice new readers and turn them into fans. Maybe things will shape up a bit in the next issue, but by then we'll all have seen the Lizard onscreen and will be bringing an expanded set of expectations. Read Full Review
