Black Panther continues its myth-building, this time with an added “gods and titans” intrigue that may explain why the country is under siege from previously forgotten foes. The art shines in parts, feels inconsistent in others, but overall, another successful entry into the growing world of our favorite nation. Read Full Review
This is still one of the comics I most look forward to every month from Marvel. Ta-Nehisi Coates and the artists he collaborates with consistently bring an interesting and compelling read starring one of Marvels greatest characters. If you havent started reading this one yet, do so. It is one of the best comics on the stands. Read Full Review
Coates' self-critical T'Challa worked extremely well when the emotional stakes of the series were based around philosophy and the fog of politics. Now that the book has moved firmly into the realm of the supernatural, those explorations are no longer strengths for the book. T'Challa needs to find the bass in his voice if he's going to have any reasonable chance at facing the threats against him now. Read Full Review
Wakanda fights off another monster invasion with a distressingly small amount of help from T'Challa. The opening monster fight is fun and exciting, but it's the story of how Shuri and Zawavari saved the day with minor assists from T'Challa and the Midnight Angels. Wilfredo Torres and Adam Gorham's pages are individually impressive but they clash with each other a bit. The two artists' treatment of Shuri is particularly divergent. This is a pretty good comic, but T'Challa needs to stop feeling like a guest star in his own title. The story of the contrite Panther has gone on too long - he makes yet another apology speech to Storm here - and the king needs to reassert himself as a hero already.
I like the change in artist, the first half of the book's art is dynamic and the second half has good layouts and interesting shadows.
