This is a fun wrap up to the series, taking us back to the setting of Sterako's classic "Hound of the Baskervilles" take in "Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." #3. It is a visually stunning issue, which is no surprise given the way Aco's established himself with the pencils in this book. It looks so, so good. The design of the scenes is creative and original, at the same time throwing back to 1968. I still bristle a bit at this version of Nick Fury, but this is the first time I got a sense of who this Nick is. This is gonna make a fun, beautiful trade.
Great way to end the series, on the best story yet. It was a lot of fun to read. I thought this series was very cool in how it presented Nick Fury's mission and let's face the big selling point was the amazing art.
Let me be clear when I deliver a lowball rating: This is not a case of "meh, it was alright, the art was above average." No. This is 9/10 art wedded to a 3/10 script. It delivered magnificent visuals and *virtually none* of the satisfying plot payoffs I was looking for. The callbacks to Jim Steranko's Nick Fury #3 were decent. The wasted potential of Frankie Noble and her Hydra plan were dreadful. Nicky coming out on top because he had the foresight to bring along an "instant win" button was also terrible.
