In short, this is the comic book that I wish we could have all rallied behind, a book that deserved the 70 issue run of classic New Warriors, but never got the support, hype or reader love to make it go, which is really a shame. Occupy Avengers #9 wraps things up with a series of loud bangs, some excellent character work, a nice final shining moment for Red Wolf and Tilda, and a seething disgust at yet another fallen title in the wake of big, stupid Marvel crossovers. Comic books are static, panels work as single moments, but there's a sense of motion in their work. It's clear how characters moved to reach the position in the current panel and where they're heading next. This dynamic art in combination with Walker's kinetic and resonant script does enough to ensure that the comic flows even as characters travel a great distance in a scene transition, but you'll also realise once you come to the final page, that they've done enough to ensure that even if Occupy Avengers comes to a close in that moment, it's not the end. The fight goes on and there's a good chance we can win. Together. Read Full Review
Hawkeye bails like a punk and the rest of the Occupy team goes out in a Butch & Sundance storm of fury. The tone is bitter turning to bittersweet by the end, and there aren't any on-page deaths, but this is definitely a "burn it all down" ending. It's written well and there's plenty of awesome combat; the biggest and most gratifying surprise is that Gabriel Hernandez Walta can draw a *hell* of a battle scene when you give him the chance.
Standard fight scenario. Average art. Drab players. Unless it's revealed that Tilda and Red died ala Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid this was an unmemorable finale to an equally unmemorable series.
