Maximum snark (pun intended): This is a script that would make Stan Lee say, "Maybe cut back some on the exposition."
I hoped that the pace would pick up once all of the status quo exposition from #1 was out of the way. What I didn't count on was the protagonists' need to laboriously re-explain the status quo to everybody they meet. Between that and their Silver Age tendency to "helpfully" call out everything the art (still polished, still stiff) shows us, it's hard to make a lot of forward plot progress.
I think this series will wind up suitable for children all the way through, but I wouldn't give it to a child I liked.
