Jan 24, 2024Power Pack: Into The Storm #1 returns to the pint-sized super team's roots with an intergalactic adventure set in the early days of the team. Simonson and Brigman remind longtime fans why the team was a hit, and the art is great, but the script plows through a lot of setup, world-building, and exposition in a rush. Read Full Review

This series launches with a big cast and a complicated status quo, and this issue does an admirable job setting it all up. The art is highly polished and detailed (although perhaps a little stiff). The dialogue is clear and suitable for younger readers. The sheer volume of material (and the expository way it's treated) really drags the pace down, though. Kids may understand it just fine, but I suspect a lot of them will be bored with it--as will most grown-ups. But with all the stage-setting completed (I hope), perhaps the promising story will develop more quickly in future issues.
