Sabretooth: The Dead Don't Talk #1 takes readers back to 1909 for a historical fiction twist on the iconic character's story, offering a fresh look at Sabretooth's time at Ravencroft under Mr. Sinister, with strong world-building and grimy, atmospheric art that captures the era well. BAD-ASS.
I hesitated to check this out but once I picked it up I couldn't stop. Just the beginning where Wolverine tells the millennial off by crushing his smartphone was so gratifying. Then going back to 1909 to see Sabretooth break Wilson Fisk' great grandfather I think out of Ravencroft asylum was so nasty and brutal I couldn't believe how gritty the art was I love it! I am getting Vampire the Masquerade and Gangs of New York vibes but with Wolverine and Sabretooth lore as a twist!
This is so brutal especially that finishing move at the final panel of this comic, this is an absolute must read!
Can't wait for the next ish!
Decent Read, But Art Steals the Show
The moment I saw the cover, I knew I had to pick up this comic. It boasts artwork that's nothing short of spectacular, really setting the stage for what could have been an epic showdown. The story kicks off intriguingly at a bar where someone begins recounting a tale to Wolverine about his arch-nemesis, Sabretooth.
However, the narrative's pace falters after this engaging start. The story seems to drag in parts, which is somewhat mitigated by the artist's evident enthusiasm during the action sequences. These scenes are where the comic truly shines; the artist clearly went all in to compensate for the slower narrative.
