Jul 25, 2023Gail Simones The Variants with Jessica Jones was SUCH a good treatment of the multiple variants concept. The trade paperback for that series came out at the end of last April. The multi-Gwen thing comes out a little too close to that particular bit of extreme cleverness. Kim has a solidly well-told story with Gwen, but it lacks enough depth to feel original in light of Simones still very recent work in the same universe. Read Full Review

Villains are foiled, lessons are learned, and Spider-Gwen's world gets a little bigger. While this series was a rocky road, it leads to a decent destination. The art is active and (mostly) clear; the same can be said of the writing. I've been dismissive of this series in concept and execution, but ultimately it makes a useful tide-you-over for fans who thirst for more Spider-Gwen adventurers.
