This is a fun issue to read, and is an easy pickup for all Star Wars fans. Do you know who Darth Maul is? You're good to go! That's all you'll need. Mark Russell does a wonderful job of showing just dangerous he is and why you really cannot underestimate him. And given the ending of this issue, it's going to be interesting to see if maybe that plays a factor into the story going forward. I HIGHLY recommend this issue to all Star Wars fans. The issue will leave Star Wars fans wanting to see more from Russell in the larger Star Wars universe, something Marvel should work towards in finding a niche for him to play in this galaxy far, far away Read Full Review
Those Maul fans who are more interested in his physical prowess that his complicated psyche will have a lot to enjoy about this book, while the issue's final reveal also highlight just how nefarious the Emperor is and what he's willing to sacrifice just to prove a point. Even if it's not especially violent, it's another thrilling standalone story for this Black, White & Red storyline. Read Full Review
This is a pretty straightforward story that's well-executed with good artwork that captures the intent well. It's narration heavy by design and Russell captures it well with the former bounty hunter that's now the town doctor even though he had no experience with it before coming here. There's a nice touch of lightness in some of the dialogue and a bit of gallows humor as well but it fits the tale. Maul himself is less a character and more just a force of events and it makes me wish that we had some post-Clone Wars stories being told for the character where there's a lot more nuance to work with and story material with his takeover of various Syndicates and the like. This is pretty basic – nicely done basic – but nothing that will be too memorable in the long run. It's great in the moment and the red execution works well throughout. Read Full Review
Star Wars: Darth Maul Black, White & Red #2 brings a solid story with the dathomirian Sith on the attack. While the POV of the comic is another character, Darth Maul remains the star of this comic as he's got the best poses, action, and even a cool double-page spread thanks to the artist Carlos Nieto. The premise is pretty straightforward and gets right to why we're here pretty soon. The problem is the lack of challenge for Darth Maul as the comic builds up his opponents as being some of the deadliest bounty hunters around, but they're not and the action ends up being a little underwhelming. However, the comic is still a fine read for a standalone Darth Maul comic. Read Full Review
