Javier Rodriguez absolutely killed it with brilliant art throughout this series and the stylized 70's look complimented the story to perfection. On top of the art, this was far and away the best thing Tamaki has written and it seems she's best fit for magic related characters or out of continuity stories as most her writing gets so ridiculous and silly for the characters she's writing (Batman, Bar bara Gordon, etc.).more

I don't know what to do with this issue. We are introduced to Verity Pennyworth. Apparently, Alfred, instead of having a unique relationship with, first, Thomas Wayne, and now Bruce is a secret member of a society that creates servants for heroes. Forget the fact that Alfred worked for the family before there ever was a Batman. But he now has a heretofore unknown niece.

And Bruce didn't know about her because he didn't read Alfred's will even though it was on his desk for nine years. Is Alfred an AI or ghost or a figment of Bruce's psyche? I still don't know.

And Fraction has visited a couple of the 27,000 plot threads he has going. This one is the Joker. After a couple of issues, he reminds us that the Joker is still in the bacta tank and plotting his evil plan. What the plan is, we don't know. But I am sure that's it's something totally original, like the laughing fish. And I can't wait to find out how he tricks the shrink, who for some reason is in charge of Damian. The trick will be original and not something like doc has Stockholm syndrome or she thought she was the one who could get through to a stone-cold maniac who enjoys inflicting pain because it's fun.

This is more of the same for Fraction. Lots of set up, but nothing actually happening. The Jim Gordon plot - nowhere, the guy with cop footage - nowhere, Poison Ivy as major - nowhere, Vandal Savage as police commissioner - nowhere.

This run has been going on for a year and it's still all setup.

The art was good, but I hate Verity's pointed shoes. Not the footwear a domestic service would wear. You need comfort and arch support.

Overall, not a great issue.

Batman is one of the best characters around. just like Spiderman. it's the Pinnacle of comics. so why on both books are these writers awful? Fraction cannot tell a story! We in fact get fragments of multiple stories. all started. not finished. many abandoned. and Matt has the balls to throw in one more with a groups of assassins coming to Gotham to kill Bruce. Finish just one plot point Matt F raction! Jesus Christ and the idea Bruce didn't read Alfred will, and was a member of a secret society of butlers who were with heroes ? WTF sense does that make given Batman's origin and Alfred was already the butler to the parents?? stuff just happens. all over the map in this book. Im losing my patience with this book.Fraction needs to dial it in and actually tell a goddamn story. this book is a wreck with some cool moments but at least it's absolutely gorgeous to look at. the elevator fight is awesome and a highlight of the book. if Matt can tell a story from start to finish this book could be very cool. but this just isn't it. more

Good issue and was glad we were given a reason why the Spectre was insignificantly jumping from host to host. I like the conclusion with Ted taking the burden on of hosting the Spectre yet it does feel inconsequential with how in control he is so I hope we get some satisfying progression or answers to justify it.

I enjoyed the most of the issue aside from the wasted pages dedicated to the assassins, but when you take a moment to actually think though a lot of the scenes things fall apart. At least he's finally got a grasp on writing Damien but the whole middle of this book was a slog. I hope he finally starts connecting and progressing all these lingering plot threads as it's criminal to waste Jimenez's ta lent on such a lack luster run.more

Excellent issue and Kal has fully come into his own as a beacon of hope full of compassion. My only gripe was that there was a lot of saying how much the kryptonite was killing him yet he's totally fine standing and embracing Metallo at the end.

The splash pages were a chore to get through but I liked the story once it got rolling.

Taylor's story was a fun romp but that back up was awful. I love art and artists, but that was the most pretentious nonsense and was a painful grind to get through.

This series was a pleasant surprise and was consistently solid. The abrupt jump forward near end to the conflict felt off though and I wish there was another page in between showing what actually happened.

Really good issue with a minor gripe for how the turtles reacted to Shredder feeling off base with current continuity. Yang's doing a solid job mixing in classic and new characters and coming up with some fresh new ideas.
