Kara and the daughter of Lex Luthor, Lena, have come together to battle a commonenemy posing as Midvale’s very own Supergirl! Will Lena’s brains and Kara’s brawnbe a match for the super-powered super-genius from Kandor? It’s Supergirl versusSupergirl in a fight for the ages! Plus, the debut of Satan Girl!
Campbell has an impressive sense of balance throughout the issue. Each scene fits the perfect space on the page with just enough time for each of the three main characters to really show a sense of growth over the course of a single issue. Campbell closes-out one of the more satisfying three-issue openings in recent memory. Read Full Review
Supergirl continues to exceed expectations, as Sophie Campbell continues to explore the villain's need for validation and Kara Zor-El's conflicted feelings about always needing to be good, yet needing to use her powers responsibly. Read Full Review
This is just the sort of Supergirl I want to read. I love Lena and how she has to overcome her own issues. I like that Supergirl struggles with her proximity to Supergirl but overcomes. And the art is just lush. Three issues in and so far, zero complaints. Read Full Review
This issue is another great one, and it really does wonders for both Kara and her supporting cast. Next issue we're headed for Kandor, and I can't wait to see more of this bizarre candy-coated world. Read Full Review
Supergirl #3 hammers home the theme of compassion and kindness, wrapping up this mini arc while setting up more to come with a cliffhanger at the end. Read Full Review
Either Sophie Campbell has captured a tone more suited to modern sentiments of Supergirl or I've merely warmed up to her style of storytelling, but 'Supergirl #3' was the most enjoyable issue of the series yet. The cliffhanger ending also peaked my interest and Campbell's art has a light hearted sensibility that doesn't feel too childish. A very approachable book that gives a bit of levity to the more world shattering DCU at large. Read Full Review
Honestly this is one of the best current series I am reading right now.
I'm tired beyond belief of the evil Supergirl trope, but just about as I've had my fill of Satan Girl, Campbell brings it back around again to be a feelgood comic. She is saved by making a new take on the evil Supergirl that affords us a few laughs in between. It's good that she seems to understand the leash she has to play with when she goes off character and doesn't pull us into a a long arc with not-supergirl like other writers might have done. It ends up being a very enjoyable issue, despite my evil-Supergirl fatigue.
Sophie Campbell is a very good writer and a very good artist. I thoroughly enjoyed her work on TMNT and she's the reason I gave this series a try. It's not the type of series I'd usually go for, but I'm enjoying it and I'll probably stick with it as long as Campbell is there.
