I really love the artwork for this book and how the characters come across and the color work, especially on Ontotho, is fantastic. Rosenberg gets us into the characters quickly and deeply but I'll admit that I'm a little frustrated with the impulsive padawan bit as that's defined every main padawan we've followed at this point I think. This was the first canon Star Wars work for both Rosenberg and it's not a bad beginning. I enjoyed his Legends comic a little while back and if the rest of this series stays consistent, I'd love to see him get more. Villanelli has now been developing a backlog of good Star Wars comic art and I'm glad to see him get more work. I'm excited to see more of what they come up with for this series! Read Full Review
The mystery at the beginning, and again at the end where things go wrong in the jungle, work fairly well. However, the flashbacks which make up the majority of the issue are rather bland. If you need a Star Wars fix, this will do, but it's not great. The story is fine, but it's the visuals that are this issue's downfall. They look unfinished and rushed, with the colors trying to help where they can. I'm a hard core Star Wars fan and I don't know if I'll make it all the way through this series, based on this premiere. Not a bad start. I always do sort of struggle to catch on to new characters in a comic. I don't really intend to play the game so I may not be the proper audience for this book anyway.
