Damn this issue was amazing, and there was so much action in it, it seemed like it just flew by. Just when things seem like they can't get worse for Flash Thompson, the Savage Six seem to take it even further. It looks like Venom is going to have to call in the Avengers or get help from Spidey, which may piss off the symbiote, but it's issues like this that are what comic books are all about. What makes Remender's work so brilliant is the inner turmoil of his central character. Flash's feelings and emotions are so beautifully depicted this issue; I really felt for him. Remender rang every ounce of tension out of this issue; from finding (what he believes) to be his sister's body, to the horrific imprisonment of his mother. Jack constant taunting of Flash, using sexuality, is hilarious. The "homage" to Gwen Stacey was well played; and I'm pleased it didn't end the same way (Flash ISN'T Spiderman... he's so much better than that!). The final line of "Have you visited your mom recently?" was chilling! :( Read Full Review
Lan Medina does a great job with the art with some great web-slinging shots from great heights and in the front of explosions. However he does the best job on Jack's victim. Read Full Review
The real highlight of this issue, though, is the scenes that deal with the fate of Flash's mother as a certain human eating member of the Savage Six enters her home. I feel as if the issue's quality almost hinges on the reader wanting to continue because Remender efficiently teases an extreme emotional conflict to come in the next installment. Otherwise, this issue is a pretty good one that could have been better if just more had happened. It seems like it existed just to make a space between the cliffhanger from last issue and the cliffhanger leading into next issue. I also have to say that while I was initially impressed with Lan Medina's artwork on this series I now find myself really wishing we could see Kev Walker or Tony Moore return to the title to deliver the artwork that has given this series some of its most outstanding issues. Lan Medina does a fair job conveying the tension of the issue with varied paneling and some nice web-slinging shots. The bad guys look creepy and the disturbing state of the murder victim will leave you with a sour stomach, appropriately. There are a few images that miss the mark, such as Flash's smoking head and the varying size of Toxin, but generally the issue looks good. There's even a well-done shot showing the eye lens of Flash's costume reflecting, sigh, Jack O'Lantern chucking a girl off a roof. Read Full Review

Damn, that was an intense issue. It was difficult to see any kind of solution/happy ending, but now there is no hope at all. Flash better get some help because it seems too much to handle it.
