Knowing the backstory of Kraven and Spider-Man helps in following along but the emotional and moral twist from Kraven is something that Spider-Man fans should respect, I know Spider-Man would… Gripping storytelling combined with outstanding art make this a must read, not only for Spider-Man fans, but comic book fans across the board. DeMatteis delivers another emotional story paired with art and colors that are a wonderful alternative to the original. This particular issue was not made with the intention to bait readers with nostalgia, but to deliver another character-driven story asking if there is more to Kraven’s Last Hunt. Who better to write this spin on the original Kraven‘s Last Hunt storyline - my favorite Spider-Man story - than the original author, J.M. DeMatteis? He and artist Yildiray Cinar are doing a great job overall. Cinar channels the original art team of Mike Zeck and Bob McLeod so well, it actually looks like the original books and immediately takes you back to a time when Marvel comics were great. It works, but it’s so close to Zeck and McLeod that you have to wonder whether it’s still an homage or an outright swipe.
However, the real issue here is the very concept of the story - it’s a What If tale, and like all What If tales, it doesn’t really matter in the end.
What remains is a well done and quite entertaining book that has none o more -
