Winter Soldier has taken over as my favorite on-going at Marvel. Even though it's a book featuring super-heroes, it takes a step away from the "guy in tights" formula that most comic book readers are accustomed to. I really enjoyed Dr. Doom in this issue as he comes off as more of a leader and less of the character I always thought was cheesy. All of Bucky's tech is explained within the issue giving it a more realistic feel to the book, even though there's a gorilla firing a machine gun and flying away on a jet pack. Butch Guice and Ed Brubaker make a dynamite team, and the only problem I have with this book isn't even a problem. I just think this would make a stellar television series. If you aren't reading Winter Soldier, then you're certifiably insane. Read Full Review

The Fandom Post - Josh Begley Mar 12, 2012

Winter Soldier is turning into one of my favorite books. It goes to the top of my read pile every month. Ed Brubaker's writing is top-notch, with great characterization and smart, tight plots, and with Guice's improved style, the art is becoming a much better fit for the story. Read Full Review

So yeah, Doom went over strong here, as he should have. Besides that, the rest of the story is falling nicely into place as Brubaker begins to find his groove in this series... I can't wait to see how much better things get next issue. Read Full Review

Lee Bermejo delivers a great looking cover of a triumphant Doom standing over Bucky. The cover doesn't really have an espionage vibe, but definitely looks good. Read Full Review

With only three issues in the bag, Winter Soldier is definitely a series you should get onboard with in its early goings. The plot is complex and the characters rich. Winter Soldier is one of Marvel's best new books. Period. Read Full Review

Winter Soldier #3 (of 5) is a great look and insight into the character of Bucky Barnes. Higgins is doing some fantastic work while Rod Reis delivers some delightful art. This is turning out to be a great little mini-series that I hope gains some more traction among readers. I feel like people are missing out on a very good read by not picking up Winter Soldier. Overall, the issue was light on the action (save for the battle between Dr. Doom and Winter Soldier), but did an excellent job sowing up some of the hazier details to pull the comic back to its heart"the story. Read Full Review

There's not much to say about this issue, but I expect it to really hit the fan next month. If you haven't added Winter Soldier to your list, I'd hop on board. Read Full Review

    Newsarama - George Marston Mar 8, 2012

I worry that a lot of people have avoided this title over their frustration with Marvel's rampant bait-and-switch style of storytelling that lead to the launch of this series, and while I won't say the false nature of the story that lead to this title was worth it, I will say that Winter Soldier is a much needed and well-deserving book that doesn't suffer from its inauspicious origins. There's a corner of the Marvel Universe for this type of super spy adventure, and Winter Soldier occupies it as well as any title in recent years. Read Full Review

"Winter Soldier" continues to please, even if just as a bridging document this month making you crave more. Leaving a reader engaged and desiring is not a bad way to construct a cliffhanger. Make no mistake -- this issue is a good slice of action and character. Now we can only hope Brubaker will make the Doombot a part of the supporting cast. That step might just be what the doctor ordered. Read Full Review
