The anger of Bucky as he tries to track down Widow is done expertly as he is getting more and more aggressive as he comes back from a dead-end. Lark does a great job depicting that. For whatever reason I love the panel of the note that Bucky was left written in bloody with the knife in the tree more than I probably should. Read Full Review

"Winter Soldier" #8 is a continuation of Brubaker's slowly burning espionage fire. The overall story and the characters come first and the set pieces arrange later. There are bigger themes at stake and the audience is expected to hold on for the entire ride. Watching Barnes slowly twist and hurt is becoming a true spectator sport. Read Full Review

This comic really is two incredibly talented creators (and their supporting cast) delivering an extremely well-constructed comic book that is an excellent example of what a gritty, hardboiled story should be. However, with the two being so well-versed in the genre, the entire thing is bordering incredibly closely on being too perfect, too clean. If you're a die-hard Brubaker fan or relatively new to the writer, there's a lot to love in this book. The same holds true if you're especially partial to Bucky and his ongoing adventures. For me, it goes over that edge, and I can't immerse myself in the world they're creating. You might not have the same problem. Read Full Review

Meanwhile Bucky and Jasper are able to find and trace the helicopter Novokov used to make off with Natalia, but they don't know that they are far too late because Natalia has now fallen to the dark side and is… dancing. Great idea for a story, but Brubaker's choice of the final reveal makes the comic read far more humorous than ominous. Still, worth a look. Read Full Review
