Criminal may be a guided tour through the underworld, but its basically about a guy without a future. Hes burdened by his past and seems to have nothing in the way of fond remembrances. And the nature of his work, his life precludes the possibility of any kind of future. Leo merely exists solely in the present, and we see that its an empty, half-life that he doesnt even know he needs to escape. Read Full Review
There is just enough potential here to keep me fairly interested in what Brubaker and Phillps have in store, but I can't deny that this comic has some fairly major flaws. This just isn't the groundbreaking work of genius it's supposed to be, but more disappointingly, it's also nowhere near as good as a Brubaker/Phillips book should be. Read Full Review
Criminal #1 is a pretty good issue. It doesn't make me want to run out and read other non-super hero American comics, but I am certainly enjoying this change of pace. If you enjoy Sean Phillips' style of art, then you will definitely like this title. At any rate, Brubaker's writing makes Criminal a title worth checking out. Read Full Review
I decided to finally read this and I'm five volumes in and it's amazing so I thought I'd catalogue my thoughts for... some reason. Oh, and the first volume is pretty vague with where the issues end, so my rating is mostly just for what I'd guess is the first fifth of the story.
Log for the first 5 issues of Criminal, loved it.
