Ninjak is a book with a lot to offer, and Kindt and company are using Operation Deadside to prove that they can capitalize on every ounce of that potential. The only discernible flaw in this issue is the art shake-up for a portion of the book, where Diego Bernard fills in for Roberto De La Torre. Bernard's art is by no means bad – it actually is quite engaging – but De La Torre's unique style has defined the look of Shan and her world. No matter who Valiant was able to find to help out was sure to be jarring. Thankfully, David Baron's gorgeous colors ease the transition. Moreover, the story by Jen Van Meter, surprisingly action-heavy, maintains the suspense and mystery that readers have come to expect from Doctor Mirage, setting up what should be a satisfying. Ninjak #12 is another fantastic entry that continues to world build within the Deadside through both dialogue and artwork. Kindt, Braithwaite, and Ryp's pacing is excellent, combining emotional character moments with heart-pounding action. Besides two minor complications, this was another wonderful issue by this creative team/s and Valiant Entertainment. Matt Kindt has been doing some incredible things with Ninjak, going places I never thought he would go. But he has not done it by himself. This issue specifically was greatly influenced by the art team. Each story, Operation Deadside and The Lost Files, had a unique texture to each of them, which made the issue worth every dime. I also would like to give credit to the letterer, Dave Sharpe. His captions and speech bubbles were perfectly placed. They never got in the way of the art, and they also outlined defining moments in each panel. Read Full Review

While I'm still not thrilled with the Deadside story in general, both Punk and Colin come across well here and I'm rather intrigued by what Shadowman hints at here without saying outright. The story still isn't captivating but damn if Braithwaite isn't absolutely killing it here. While I'm still kind of frustrated by the heavy darker color that we get that takes away from the details, the look and flow of this book is once again fantastic. There's some really fun creativity going into these set designs and the flow of the action. I just wish Colin wasn't stuck in such an awful suit. Beyond that, however, Ninjak is killing it in the artwork department and that makes this worth the read right there. Read Full Review
