Beware the lords of the Deadside!
Ninjak and Shadowman have launched an all-out assault against Babel - the ancient being determined to breach heaven - on the dark and decaying battlefields of the Deadside. But are the combined might of sword and shadow enough to stop this biblical force of nature...or will they need the help of an ancient and weary warrior whose power transcends their understanding? And as oblivion inches ever closer to Earth, Tama the Geomancer and Punk Mambo must step out of the darkness and halt Babel's forces from infiltrating the land of the living as Valiant's Shadowman-driven standalone event fight on!
Once again,Andrew Dalhouse‘s colouring is wonderful, and truly bring the Deadside to life (pun not intended). The art team ofCafuwith Roberto De La Torre gave Dalhouse some fantastic virgin art to work with, and the end result is a comic that is utterly wonderful to look at. But it's not just wonderful to look at;Matt Kindtonce again delivers a solid script, driving the plot forward without rushing the development of the story – Kindt is truly a master of his craft. I give this issue 4.5 out of 5 stars. I wasn't sure of the premise when I heard of this series and I initially picked this up on the names of Kindt and CAFU. I haven't been disappointed and this series has exceeded my expectations. It's yet another high-quality Valiant title that is a solid buy if you are into deep, mystical adventures with engrossing writing and a solid mix of story and action. The knockout color and art will keep you smiling all the way through. My main criticism is that this issue feels short and it's hard to review this without taking into account the entire series as a whole. This is very much the penultimate book in a series that is meant to be read in full. I'm sad we only have one more issue after this one. Read Full Review
Overall another solid issue from Matt Kindt and team. I have loved every issue thus far, with my only real criticism is that we don't get nearly enough Ninjak. That's just a personal problem though. Great writing and a fantastic art makes for a happy read for this Valiant fan. Do yourself a favour and pick up this series as I am sure it will lead to bigger things down the line. Read Full Review
With the end of Rapture #3 we are set up for the final confrontation with Babel and whatever in the world he has now unleashed having his plans brought to fruition. This was always a mess of a situation for this team when they jumped into it and now things could only get worse before they get any better. Rapture is not a story you want to sleep on because the world-building here is unlike any you will get from other books on the shelves currently. Read Full Review
Rapture #4 will have a lot of ground to cover since the big twist to Babel's plan has yet to be revealed. The series has been entertaining, and it has been fun to see these varied Valiant characters attempt to work together. Independently, they are formidable in their own rights, but they have never worked together. It will be interesting to see if they can come together to prevent the apocalypse of everything. Even if they fail, this has been an interesting departure from the norm. Read Full Review
The penultimate chapter of "Rapture" sets up the finale and spectacular stakes well, hopefully, the landing isn't Indiana Jones-esque. Read Full Review
It's hard not to be impressed by the concepts in play here, even if parts of the issue do feel a little like filler. Read Full Review
