While Sherlock Holmes #1 may attempt to clarify the structure of a new literary character to the Grimm Universe, finally lending a much needed gravitas to the bold sincerity of Spencer's surname, it is a dramatic shift of definition which causes hopeful readers to be disappointed by the approach of the special, ignoring the underlying reputation of a famous detective in lieu of mystical abilities, which are all too commonplace within the wide variety of heroines that populate the Realms of Power. I found this 75-page origin story for Spencer Holmes to be really entertaining and think that they'd be better served calling the book Spencer Holmes as opposed to selling it as Sherlock as they move forward. The characters were fun and engaging and Spencer was very easy to like. Especially given the trauma that she experiences during this first adventure. Read Full Review
SHERLOCK HOLMES #1 introduces the readers to the next generation of Holmes detectives when Spencer Homes recalls how she received her familys legacy just in time to join a battle to save the Earth. Brushas script creates a well-rounded origin for the next great detective, and her first adventure is certainly creative, but the publishing time is poor, and Spencers miraculous powers of deduction failed her when they were needed most.
