Waid is at his best when he doesn't have to worry about continuity and can just create the version of Superman and the version of Lex Luthor he's always had in mind. And we get a great, noble Superman and delightfully arch Luthor. The art is also amazing - the combo of Hitch and Nowlan brings out the best in both. The only flaw here is that Waid doesn't quite get us an ending to match the rest.
