As time runs out, Lex Luthor denies fate with a spectacular finale. Waids writing presents the final stand with a strong level of emotion. The wait has definitely been worth it as the finale of Superman: The Last Days of Lex Luthor is astonishing. With creative storytelling, emotional depth, and incredible art, this story is a standout that explores the complex relationship between Lex Luthor and Superman. Read Full Review
Waid stays true to the characters, and therefore true to himself, in this tale of one of the most iconic rivalries in comic history, while still creating tension, core character moments, and dramatic action. A minor knock for my note about the art, but as someone who doesnt love stories that focus on the villains, this whole miniseries, and Superman: Last Days Of Lex Luthor #3 in particular, had me gripped to the seat. Superman: The Last Days of Lex Luthor #3 is a stunning, ambitious finale that cements Lex as both villain and tragic figure. Mark Waid and Bryan Hitch pull no punches, offering a Brainiac plot worthy of future top ten lists and a resolution that's as final as it is thoughtful. While Superman takes a backseat, the emotional and visual weight of Lex's journey gives the series a lasting impact. It's a fitting farewell if not to life, then to illusions. Read Full Review
Waid is so good with Superman and the related characters that his style works in just about any format. Read Full Review
Hitch, inker Kevin Nowlan, and colorist David Baron's widescreen art is a perfect fit for this story's epic scope although I feel like the Lex Luthor getting superpowers was handled much better in Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman. Read Full Review
But so much happens so fast and so quickly this last issue that it is a little hard to swallow. Brainiac's Lex scheme seems like it isn't even necessary for his world domination plot, so why do it? Brainiac's ability to capture everyone is so fast? His plot is around increasing his hard drive storage? Lex is able to cure himself so easily after nothing else worked? Superman won't allow Lex to sacrifice himself to save the world? I haven't talked about the art a lot. Hitch and Nowlan are great throughout and there are plenty of big action sequences here that sizzle. Read Full Review
Brainiac - A being without compassion - managed to revive the emotion and friendship that was imbued between the two. Wonderful. Lex is an incredible character. I loved this series.
Great characterization, lots of twists, solid art.
Mark Waid = 10
It's honestly so strange on how Mark Waid wrote this in a tight corner, yet he managed to tie everything up and got out of this almost flawlessly. this is Bryan hitch's best work, and the delay was well worth the wait.
