Reread is done! I can say that this book definitely reads better on a reread, but I just wanted to note some things in not just this collection but the run overall:
- Marvel has some explaining to do about the whole Lizard thing in this run, given how Nick Spencer last left the character at the end of his run.
- While I'm positive Kelly Thompson is a good writer (I should really read her Black Widow), I find her scripts in this run to be kinda boring overall. Not terrible, but definitely not as engaging as the scripts of the other writers.
- The Ben Reilly status quo shakeup at the end? Yeah, that was well written. Definitely better than when Dan Slott turned him into the Jackal. I'm looking forward to seeing how his story continues. As with the whole "Ben Reilly doesn't have a place anymore" bit in the editorial notes, I'll play devil's advocate here and say that there are too many Spider-Men running around 616. I think it should just be Peter and Miles and every one else either dead or confined to their own universe.
While I did give this set of issues an 8.5, I gotta say that the final issue was great. Well done to everyone involved! This was a really enjoyable ASM run for me. I got my money's worth and, above all, I had fun!
