An overly drawn-out plot, not without frankly silly script decisions.

It would be much better if it was shorter and written by a more professional author. 12 issues (one of them being giant-sized) for a 1984 limited series is too much. Just too much. And it's not like it was THAT eventful. There's a lot of cool and epic moments, a lot of iconic points of Marvel Comics history, but not everything was good, the story is stalling most of the time, plus some characters developments or behaviors were rather random. Some characters felt not necessary at all. I understand it was made only to sell action figures, but it doesn't justify it.
