Uncanny X-Men (2018) Annual #1

Jan 24, 2019

Super excited that Scott is back. The way they killed him off was dumb, so I am glad they made it happen, although I am sad that we still haven't seen the Scott, Jean meet up yet. This is like Mary Jane and Peter, Marvel just doesn't want them to be happy. Ever. The reason the book got a bit lower was because Scott's voice seemed off. Maybe it's because he's been dead for so long, but it just didn't read like a leader, it read more like a lackey. I have high hopes for him and Logan to team up... I mean my two favorite X-Men, working together and saving the mutant race? Yeah, sign me up.

X-Men: Red (2018) #2

This book is neither good or bad. I understand there is set up happening but I haven’t liked how they skipped all of Jean coming back to he world. (I understand that is coming in the annual) but I feel like it would be more interesting with everyone realizing she’s back. As far as this issue goes it seems like the weight of the first issue just wasn’t there as much as it should be. Not like how X-Men Gold is playing out right now. Plus I don’t mind activism in comics but Trinary’s story was so quick and unsubtle and just out of place. Here be X-men are dealing with someone dying right in front of them and Mutant speciesism and then they just throw this in there to throw it in. I think it would have fit better in the story had she wiped the criminal or any records of mutants in India. The sentinel at the end has me excited, but you bring Jean Grey back I expect an A book, and right is this is pretty hard B-C for me.

I feel like this book is the Last Jedi. Some people are saying how, "This is the X-Men book we're all looking for," when it's really not any good. Nothing happened this issue, it was so dull and boring. And Trinary is literally a character created to push agendas. I'm not even complaining about agendas being storylines in comics, but when it is so out of the tone of what is going on and it takes three speech bubbles to explain, it's not good dialogue. This book gets one more issue, and if nothing changes it's going to get dropped. I like Gold, Astonishing and Domino is a fun read, but wow, this book is just a snoozefest with politics.
