Batman Beyond (2015) #1
Jun 5, 2015 |
I've seen a lot of reviews for this issue that are not so flattering. I have to admit, I really enjoyed this issue. Yes, it was a little confusing at first, which is my fault for not readingFutures End,but I was able to muddle through it. Do I think this series will be my favorite for the year? Probably not? For the week? Not at all, that actually goes toJustice League #40so check out my review for that if your interested. However, this issue was fun and enjoyable and the last page is one that makes me excited to see where the series goes. |

The issue did have faults, with the pacing being just a bit too rushed and there being too much of a exposition dump early on by Barbara, but the second issue of this series just continued on with what I need from a Batman Beyond title. It may not have been such a strong outing as the first issue, but it certainly whet my appetite until next month. |

Although I really liked this issue, I feel like it lacked a little bit of a punch that I really wanted. I'm excited to see where this series goes from here, especially if they continue to throw in familiar characters of the JLU and Batman Beyond cartoon series. |

I've been up-and-down with this series, but this has been my favorite issue thus far. If the series keeps going in this direction, it's going to be a contender for my favorite comic of the year. |

When I started reading this series, I had fairly low standards all around. I knew it would be a solid book, but I didn't think it would be as good as it has been for the past couple of issues. This issue continues on the path of awesomeness with beautiful art, well paced story telling, and a genuinely heart felt interaction between Tim and Barbara when Tim first hops in the suit. |

Batman Beyond (2015) #6

Overall, the issue was an action packed finale that I expected it to be. I just wish that it had a little more substance when it was needed and a little less ambiguity with the major deaths of the issue. With almost no seeds planted for the second arch on the book, I'm anxious to see where the creative team will take the series from here. |

The issue was a little slower than what I would have liked, but the interesting new direction of the plot and the fantastic art piqued my interest enough for me to continue reading. I'm still anxious, and maybe now, even more so to see what Jurgens can do with Tim and the rest of theBeyondcast and will continue to sing the praises of this book. |

I feel, genuinely, terrible, but there really isn't much to talk about in this issue. Nothing was really explained or expanded upon and the issue was just incredibly slow. It's starting to feel like work reading these past couple of issues and I can only hope that the story starts to pick up soon. |

Overall, the issue was fine. It wasn't bad at all, but it wasn't full throttle, edge of your seat kind of stuff that I would like. Granted, this is the first issue in an upcoming storyline and it is, almost, just a bridge to the full-on war we are about to get, but it just didn't do much for me. |

Justice League (2011) #41

Man, oh man. This issue packs quite a wallop and might be a contender for one of my favorite issues of the series. Johns is a master at story telling and even though he keeps most of the big reveals very close to the vest, you really get the sense that this is the story he has been leading to through his entire run. This is neither confirmed or even researched, but I wouldn't be surprised if Johns left the title after this arch. You can see the seeds being sewn from the past 40 issues coming together and with the introduction of new characters, this story has the making of being a pivotal point in the New 52, and in DC's overall history. |

It was a nice continuation for the story, even though it seemed that there was a bit of an information dump at the end. |

I truly loved the stand-off of Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor and how it mirrors the story of Charybdis, Scylla, and Odysseus. The splash page of these two Gods squaring off with the Earth hanging in between them is, personally, my favorite piece of Faboks art that I've ever seen. If this issue is any indication as to what we can expect for the finale of this 'Darkseid War' then count me in! |

Justice League (2011) #44

This issue has been one of, if not the best, issue of the series thus far. I remain in my stead that Fabok is the best current DC artist out there and his art in this issue is top-notch. It would be easy for this story to get lost in the fray between the various other arcs that are concurrently going at the same time, but everything is crisp, clean, and perfectly understandable through the whole ordeal. I cannot recommend this title, or this issue enough. |

It was genuinely interesting to see what Johns has been building to in this arc with making Batman the God of Knowledge and then making The Flash the God of Death. I won't spoil it for you, but almost everyone in the JL have now been converted to some New God and it's really exciting to see the characters that haven't been changed rise up and overcome the odds. This arc has been equally about Wonder Woman as the Darkseid War and I can only assume something exciting is going to happen with her. The only downside to this issue was that it was a little bit of a reprieve from the action that last issue built on, but this happened for good reason. There was much more actual story-telling in this issue than in the past, so I'll give it a pass on my part. |

Justice League (2011) #46

Every comic series requires intermission issues that set up the rest of the arc, and that's exactly what this issue was. There was nothing inherently bad about this outing, but nothing too far on the positive side either. I'm still in love with this series and where Johns is taking it, but this is a small misstep in what has been a fantastic ride thus far. |

This issue has been one of my favorites of the series so far, and the return of Jason Fabok only made it that much better. I love Francis Manapul, truly I do. I don't have kids, but if I did, I would gladly allow him to take my kids from me. That being said, it is so fantastic to see the return of Fabok in this issue. His art is like a grilled cheese sandwich for me, and I could eat this comfort food until the cows come home. The same could be said about this series as a whole. It's warm blanket-like goodness is something I only wish to wrap myself in every month. |
