Justice League #44 is immense. The Darkseid War is, thus far, my favourite arc of 2015, and possibly my favourite DC arc ever if this astounding level of quality is maintained. I am not saying this lightly: this event trumps every arc & major event that has occurred in the DCU since the inception of the New 52. This is a must read for any fans of the Justice League or even just fans of damn good superhero comics. Darkseid War continues to deliver great chapter after chapter. In some ways, it feels like we're getting a nice and slow but steady build up. I have no idea how long this arc will last and I don't want to know. Each chapter cranks up the action just a little more. Although in this issue, things appear to have escalated pretty dang quickly. Geoff Johns is giving us a big comic book event while keeping it contained to a single series. Jason Fabok's art is incredible and Brad Anderson's colors are most impressive. This book is carving out its own path in the DCU. You can easily dive in and become submersed into the story and action. Jason Fabok and Geoff Johns are a match made in heaven, I wasn't sure if the team of Johns/Reis could be beat but I think we have a contender with Johns/Fabok, either way the fans of Justice League win out in the end. This issue has been one of, if not the best, issue of the series thus far. I remain in my stead that Fabok is the best current DC artist out there and his art in this issue is top-notch. It would be easy for this story to get lost in the fray between the various other arcs that are concurrently going at the same time, but everything is crisp, clean, and perfectly understandable through the whole ordeal. This story is a spectacle that all should be witness to because Johns is delivering everything that the fans have ever wanted to see and more.  There really isn't much to say besides for get off your ass and go get this issue because the story is great and the art is fantastic and if you miss this, I'm sure you're going to regret it.......... or you'll just go get the trade when it comes out, but then you'd have to go all those months without being able to yell at total strangers about how great this story is and nobody wants that. The artwork is gorgeous per usual for this series. No one draws hair quite like Fabok, and his accuracy of anatomy and depiction of muscles is equaled by few others. After effects such as motion blur are employed frequently throughout, but rarely over used, and Fabok demonstrates a mastery of traditional techniques as well, such as in Darkseid's Omega Beams or the Anti-Monitor's antimatter blasts. Just as importantly, he knows precisely when to utilize computer enhancements and when to stick to plain old pencils. It is a shame that the move away from the New 52 labeling and tone isn't matched by a jettisoning of the armor costume redesigns in favor of the classic spandex and underwear, but the new digs each league member is receiving upon deification are visually striking at the least. Johns and Fabok have proven that you don't need to sacrifice quality just for the sake of high concept. "The Darkseid War" has an epic feel to it and this chapter in "Justice League" #44 continues that trend, making this read like the latest installment of a DC Comics event. The cast is rather tight for an event comic, but that thinner group of characters gives Johns, Fabok, Anderson and Leigh ample opportunity to put each character under the microscope. Not every member of the League has equal panel time, but the ones that do are filled with drama and potential. The art has been nothing short of stunning, and the plot has been quite engaging. This issue finally brought the fight I had been so desperately longing to see. Frankly, the fight felt like purchasing an expensive pay per view fight, only to see the bout end early. There was still a knockout, and it was highly entertaining, but it left me wanting more (not a bad thing). Luckily, more is exactly what we're going to get. Big, powerful, and epic. Everything that an event comic wants to be, without the convolutedness.

Congratulations to Johns, this is how you properly use Batman when you have so many powerful characters in your story.The issue had tension and the battle was awesome thanks to Fabok.This is probably the best part because the plot truly moves forward.

They said Justice League was going to be THE book that will be the the heart and life blood of the DCU. This is THE DC flagship book! Everything in this book effects and shapes the future if the DCU.

In this book we explore the secret history of the Anti-Monitor, his connection to the creation of this universe, the anti-matter universe, and the Anti-Life Equation. Huge stuff going on right?

And how awesome is it that the Justice League are turning into gods (yes they kinda already are in their own way, gods among men).

Darkseid summons The Black Racer, which is basically Death on skis made me think of the Silver Surfer.

Apparently it’s a big deal for him to do so. Apparently an act of desperation.

Then something interesting and revealing.
The Anti-Monitor who created the Mobius Chair says that in order to control Death, he must give it a host, hence The Flash turning into The Black Racer. What did this mean? Does he represent all those forces on the universe who need hosts? Is he somehow have something to do with them all?

And surely the Source Wall and “The” Hand will be bright up too eventually right?

Having said all that, the only danger is the balance between characterization and being an event book. It’s tricky. You want to make sure there is story and not just plot. I think so far, they’re doing ok. I’m glad that they are doing these one-shot tie-ins because I think that’s them addressing that a bit. In the main book, there just isn’t enough room to explore all the characters in relation to everything that’s happening.

There is a ton of stuff going on, but it doesn't get overwhelming until the Black Racer comes along. Keep in mind that this is New52 continuity, we haven't seen this guy before but he just comes out of nowhere with no lead up.
