Justice League hit one out of the park on the first pitch. I have to say that hasn't happened to me in a long time. This title has everything: story, dialogue, pacing and art. As for the last item, there's a panel right after the money shot; its of the heroes, they don't say a word, they just rush head long into the fray to do what they do. Stop evil. Bam. Fricken comics. I truly loved the stand-off of Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor and how it mirrors the story of Charybdis, Scylla, and Odysseus. The splash page of these two Gods squaring off with the Earth hanging in between them is, personally, my favorite piece of Faboks art that I've ever seen. Fabok, already very capable before taking over this book, has grown as a storyteller by leaps and bounds in his work with Johns. The writer, meanwhile, continues to find ways to present far-reaching ideas in a relatable and human way that draws in the reader until they are gripping the pages tighter and tighter. Admittedly, some readers might cry foul at the continued set-up, particularly since characters like the Flash, Cyborg and Power Ring get so little face time, and others might still find the pages following Darkseid's forces to be a bit impenetrable - and they're not wrong. But ultimately, that's not what the pull of a book like Justice League is about. This is a book that's supposed to showcase DC's best and brightest, teaming up with over-the-top adventures too big for any one of them to face alone. Overall, this is my favorite issue thus far due to its ability to build excitement and deliver cinematic panels. The art is fantastic and Fabok gives us great character designs like Bat-God and Kalibak. The comic is pretty well done as an entity. It's over the top, but you can't put it down as not dynamic work. And while the coloring follows DC's current house palette of choice and could use a slight more touch of stylized coloring, it is nonetheless rich with cinematic flair that matches Fabok's weighty work and paneling. Geoff Johns is carefully placing his dominos in a large pattern that is sure to be spectacular when all the pieces fall. The question is, what will remain? Darkseid Waris its own event, so any ramifications that result in this story, for the most part will be self contained. Nonetheless, the ramifications appear to be drastic with a few casualties most likely on the way. The physical action between Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor has begun, but the rest of the war is just getting started. There's a lot going on that is sure to turn the tides of battle. Only thing is, how can there be a true clean victory in a fight such as this? Things are sure to be shaken up, but it's not a company wide event. The results of this war will most likely affect the characters on a personal level. Lives taken, relationships shaken, and the earth a quaking (sorry, I was reading Dr. Seuss earlier). This is an issue that makes it clear that the creative team knows exactly what they are doing. This is going to be an extended storyline so, honestly, this is the issue that makes certain everything is moving along as it should be. Theres a lot of plot movement and it is handled very well. Justice League #43 is a good comic book, but it could be a great one. Surely at some point the hunt for Mister Miracle will yield something great in the home stretch of the "Darkseid War," but as of now, its just distracting from the real meat of the plot. Geoff Johns, Jason Fabok and Brad Anderson have great issues in them and have delivered them before, but they can't all be rock solid. Justice League #43 is solid enough but it could be more if it was just a bit more focused on the plots that are continually interesting. At least now we have a explosive start to the "Darkseid War" and the only thing left to do now is see who makes it out the other side once the dust settles. Read Full Review

Justice League #43 falls victim to the audience knowing more about what is happening than the characters. Johns has to spend a number of pages describing who certain characters are and what their play is. This leads to an almost skippable first two-thirds of the book. Despite these shortcomings, there are some bright spots, mainly Superman and Lex. In addition, the final third of the book really builds the tension and sets the war in motion. There was a lot of dialogue, but that wasn't a bad thing, instead it made sense.The team up between Superman and Luthor was a pleasant surprise.So, lets see if the change of Superman's status will affect the war.

The word epic is thrown around a lot these days, but in this case I think it's appropriate.

I think Warner Bros. should hold off the Justice League movie until Darkseid War ends and then immediately proceed to make a movie based off of it. Apokolips Superman looks more badass tan mobius chair Batman even tho it's just a reverse black and white color scheme of him. Negative Superman? And that splash-between Anti-Monitor and his army against Darkseid and his parademons is hang it as a poster in my man-cave worthy. Story-wise? It's Geoff Johns which means you're better off withholding judgement until the entire arc is released, otherwise you're just grading chapters of a whole book. Honestly I kinda wish I waited until this came out in trade and just read through it as one whole epic.

Again, Fabok kills it. Some of the dialogue didn't flow as it should, and I caught two lettering errors, which affected my enjoyment of the story. Interesting that both Batman and Superman have been currupted, really only leaving Wonder Woman as an able leader. Flash is down, Shazam is (as always) a kid, Cyborg chimes in on technology and serves as transportation, and Green Lantern seems to be cast as MobiusBatman's moral police officer. Hopefully the heroes fall to the background next issue and we get to see the two mega villains in all their infamy.
