Border Town #1

Oct 27, 2018

Border Town has already built a huge base of both haters and fans, but there is no denying that this book is heading in the right direction. These political tensions arent going away anytime soon, so the creative team will have plenty of material to work with. Most readers will also be unaware of the folklore creatures, and that will draw new audiences in that want to learn more about these intriguing horrors of myth and legend. Border Town has the makings of not only a great social commentary book, but also a great horror book that will be remembered for years to come.

FCBD 2019: The Dark Age / Afterburn #1

May 14, 2019

This creative team is off to a really great start. The Dark Age FCBD issue had just enough teaser material to hopefully grow a fan base for the first issue release in July. There is still much of the story yet to be told about the 13 years that have passed since the incident. This is a bold and dangerous world that Ethen is raising his children in. A healthy childhood is a thing of the past as every decision is now life and death and there is no room for error. There always seem to be a litany of comics based around the apocalypse on store shelves. The Dark Age offers enough of variety on the subject to make it worth adding to your pull list.

Spencer & Locke 2 #1

May 1, 2019

Spencer and Locke 2 will quickly prove that the creative team has created something special. Giving classic characters a new twist is not a new idea, but giving them such depth, with trauma and how they cope with it, is an issue that resonates with many. Although they do provide a recap of the events of the first four issues, readers should check them out anyway as they are a terrific story arc in themselves. Spencer and Locke 2 will be a title that readers should keep their eyes out for.

Spencer & Locke 2 #2

Jun 8, 2019

Pepose and the creative team are quickly proving that Spencer and Locke 2 is a multilayered series that looks to address several social issues. The ending will only raise more questions as it is both empowering and heartbreaking at the same time. Spencer and Locke 2 should absolutely be in readers pull list as this series will no doubt get crazier with each new issue. And thats just how it should be.

The Curse of Brimstone #1

Jul 25, 2018

This creative team of Jordan, Tan and Beredo have delivered a great first issue that follows in the dark footsteps of Dark Nights: Metal. It will be interesting to see what implications this character and his settings have in the new DC Universe, and if any of the heavy hitters will get involved further down the line.

Jordan, Tan and Beredo have delivered another solid issue of The Curse of Brimstone. Joe seems more determined than ever to help reverse the damage done to his town and others that have been affected by The Salesman. It will be interesting to see if Joe can learn to control his incredible powers going forward, or if he will be consumed by them and his guilt over what happened to his town.

Eternity Girl #1

May 23, 2018

Eternity Girl is a book that delves very heavily into the human psyche and an incredibly powerful individual dealing with severe depression and an existential crisis. This isnt a book that you can plow right through, you need to take your time with it. The topics discussed in this issue, and more than likely this series, need to be discussed in the open without shame or embarrassment, and hopefully this series can do that while telling the tale of this tragic, yet exciting new character.

Magdalene Visaggio and her creative team have a real gem on their hands. Exploring these dueling realities hindering on mental health is something that hasnt been analyzed in this depth. This creative team of Visaggio, Liew and Chuckry have really worked well to establish the difference between reality and Carolines journey in their own ways. Another running storyline through this issue is about a record playing. How there are endless grooves in it that spin around and around. This is, of course, referring to Carolines immortality. The creative team have really taken this series to new heights with the revelations in this issue. With only two issues left, things are about to get explosive for sure.

Hawkman (2018) #1

Jul 2, 2018

This creative team has set a pretty high bar as to what can be expected from this series. This is a great number one issue to pick up for readers who may not be familiar with the character and want to start fresh. Each member of the team is on top of their game, and have set the stage for an exciting series that will have a big impact in the new DC universe.

Hawkman (2018) #2

Jul 18, 2018

The creative team of Venditti, Hitch, and Sinclair have delivered another delightful issue in what will hopefully be a long-running series. The possibilities for storytelling with the character of Carter Hall have been pushed wide open with the new idea that his past lives now stretch across time and space. The DC Universe is ripe with fantastic alien worlds that would make a great setting for a Hawkman adventure.

Hawkman (2018) #3

Sep 25, 2018

Hawkman is a character that many may feel hasnt received his just rewards, playing second fiddle to many of the heavy hitters of the DC Universe. Carter Hall is proving with this series that he has so much more to offer. Robert Venditti, Bryan Hitch and Alex Sinclair have once again shown that Hawkman deserves his own series and can take the reigns of a riveting action/adventure title that will hopefully have a long run.

Hawkman (2018) #5

Oct 28, 2018

While there may be some minor change-ups to the creative team with Skipper taking over for Alex Sinclair, that hasnt steered them off course from telling a unique and compelling story. They are taking Hawkman in bold, new, and exciting directions that have stuck a cord with readers. Wherever Carter ventures after his mission in The Microverse, it will no doubt leave readers excited for the journey ahead.

Hawkman (2018) #12

May 17, 2019

Hawkman has been an outstanding series thus far and has surpassed many expectations. The creative team has done an excellent job in exploring the history of the always mysterious Carter Hall. Not only have they explored it further than any previous series, but they have also kept it fresh and exciting. Although this story arc seems to have ended just a tad anticlimactic, the seeds are already being sown for the next chapter in Hawkmans epic tale.

Raven: Daughter of Darkness #1

May 2, 2018

The team working on this book seem to be a good fit together. Wolfman knows this character inside and out. What will be interesting is to see what new developments he can make with her character in 12 issues. Mahn brings an interesting style to the table, with soft and vulnerable characters designs mixing with harsh and stoic. Kindzierski ability to make the most out of the darker colors that dominate the book, will no doubt shine through this mini series.

Raven: Daughter of Darkness #2

May 16, 2018

In just two issues, the team of Wolfman, Mahn and Kindzierski have laid the groundwork to what should be one issue after another of continued growth and innovation with this story and its characters. Wolfman has given Raven a world of possibilities to explore within her character arc. With such a spirit of optimism, it will be interesting to see how far she is willing to go to protect the people she cares about, if she will give in to her dark powers.

Raven: Daughter of Darkness #3

May 28, 2018

Wolfman, Mahn and Kindzierski have given the readers a dark and sinister setting in just three issues. Although there do seem to be glimmers of hope here and there, the darkness seems to be growing with every issue. Raven has displayed such bravery in the face of danger, albeit sometimes at very nearly to cost of her safety. It will be interesting to see how safe she can keep herself as this series continues along towards an exciting climax.

Raven: Daughter of Darkness #4

Jun 13, 2018

With issue four, Wolfman and the creative team have once again raised the stakes with the introduction of Ravens mother. Even though she has longed to have her mother back in her life, this will no doubt make even more trouble for the heroine. Sometimes in comics, when new characters are introduced, it can detract from the story; however, with a creative team like this, it only heightens the already palpable tension.

Raven: Daughter of Darkness #5

Jul 2, 2018

With the introduction of The Shadow Riders and the imminent threat of Trigon entering reality, Wolfman, Mahn, and Kindzierski have certainly cranked up the stakes for Raven. This issue ends on a big cliffhanger, and, by next issue, it is already halfway through the series. Where they take the readers from here will no doubt be exciting.

Raven: Daughter of Darkness #6

Aug 14, 2018

With six issues under their belt, the creative team of Wolfman, Mahn and Kindzierski have been able to keep things fresh by introducing new ideas for the next six issues. Hopefully with the possible introduction of Baron Winters Night Force, new and exciting characters can be introduced and help build on the excitement they have created in the first half of this mini series. In the last few panels of the issue, they make sure to remind the reader that The Shadow Riders are still out there and pose a very serious threat to the magical community.

The Demon: Hell is Earth #1

Aug 1, 2018

Series writer Andrew Constants first outing with this character didnt seem to have the same impact that past writers have delivered. Readers have come to expect a tongue twisting treat when picking up an Etrigan book, this first issue was lacking unfortunately. Constant did help to flesh out Blood and Etrigans relationship more and with the rest of the creative team having so much experience and delivering excellent work, hopefully it can help elevate the character to rhyming glory once again.

Batman: Kings of Fear #1

Oct 11, 2018

This was a very surprising first issue for a miniseries that was hyped up with the return of Kelley Jones. 2018 is seeing a Batman title that looks and reads like it was straight out of the 90s. While there are a few shining moments throughout this first issue, overall, it was a big let down. It will be interesting to see if the creative team can recover from this weak first outing and deliver something memorable. Most trips down Nostalgia Lane are pleasant; this one, however, wasnt.
