Comic Bastards - Jordan North Oct 23, 2013

This is a book any Hellboy fan has to pick up and one that any comic fan would be missing out to pass up on. Rarely are heroes depicted so young which is interesting in and of itself, but with all the heart that Mike Mignola infuses into this book and his trademark character the whole project is brought up to the next level. Great work is done here by all. Don't miss out. Read Full Review

The perfect thing to read this Halloween season, Hellboy: The Midnight Circus has it all. Gorgeous art practically enveloped by the shadows of the night, great pacing, and enough nods for longtime travelers through the Mignolaverse that they can consume this dish in a ravenous fit of hunger. Hellboy in Hell can't come back fast enough, but in the meantime, go read Midnight Circus. Purchase a ticket, and see this story of dark wonder. Read Full Review

Horror DNA - James Ferguson Jan 6, 2014

The Midnight Circus is a great addition to the Hellboy mythos.  It fills in some of the gaps to provide a little more backstory to the character and how he became the man and the hero later on in life.  It also shows how deeply that Professor Bruttenholm cares for the boy in a world where the child is treated as an outcast and a bit of a freak. This is worth checking out for Duncan Fegredo's excellent artwork alone. Read Full Review

    All-Comic - Tyler Goulet Oct 23, 2013

This story really feels like something that was done for the fans. People wanted more stories with young Hellboy, so Mike Mignola went out and wrote an awesome one. People wanted more Duncan Fegredo on a Hellboy book, so that's exactly what we got. If you're a fan, this was for you and it was an absolute treat. Any time you get Mignola and Fegredo together it's going to be special, and this was no exception. New fan or old, go out and pick this up. There's no way you're going to be disappointed. Weekly Comic Book Review - Hugo Robberts Lariviere Oct 23, 2013

Combining horror, a sense of child-like wonder with a subtle touch of Mignola's own mythology, this graphic novel simply astounds on many levels, the strongest being the art of Duncan Fegredo and Dave Stewart, which can only be summarized as breathtaking. In simpler terms, it's a beautiful and impossible strong piece of work from everyone involved. Read Full Review

Comic Spectrum - Jeff Bouchard Nov 24, 2013

Page count aside, Hellboy: The Midnight Circus is a prime example of what creators at the top of their game can do with a character and world they are familiar with. It is a beautifully illustrated story that provides a glimpse into the life of a young Hellboy. A great standalone story that fans of Hellboy won't want to miss; it is an approachable OGN that can be enjoyed by readers not familiar with Hellboy as well. Read Full Review

Bloody Disgusting - Jorge Solis Oct 24, 2013

Just in time for Halloween, "Hellboy: The Midnight Circus" is downright impossible to put down when you start reading. For those who only know about Hellboy through the Guillermo Del Toro movies, this a great way to be re-introduced to the character in the comics. Read Full Review

    Comicosity - Michael Hale Oct 22, 2013

Hellboy: The Midnight Circus is an amazingly drawn and colored piece of art that serves as a wonderful homage to older tales, but it also adds to the rich Hellboy universe. While the story is short, it serves as a window into what is a genuinely large comic universe, and the journey into the circus is one not to be missed. Read Full Review

Multiversity Comics - Brian Salvatore and David Harper Oct 23, 2013

It is a remarkable artistic achievement that has beautiful character moments throughout, but I didn't get that completely, absolutely inexplicable charge out of it that I typically want from a book of that level. Masterful achievement that I appreciate deeply though. Read Full Review

Imagination Centre - John McCubbin Feb 1, 2014

Hellboy: The Midnight Circus is a fun and enjoyable read, but it is at the same time very quick paced, not taking very long to read. I do however still recommend this OGN and especially to Hellboy fans, but to non-fans you may want to try one of the other Hellboy stories first. Read Full Review

Culture Mass - Andy Mansell Oct 23, 2013

This book is a gentle and frightening fairy tale that digs deep and resonates within the characters as well as the readers. Hellboy: The Midnight Circus is a fiery gem in a tasteful, subtle setting that leaves us feeling melancholy, scared, and wishing our parents were around to comfort us. Read Full Review

Front Towards Gamer - FTG Contributor Oct 28, 2013

Hellboy: The Midnight Circus is a thoroughly enjoyable graphic novel and a real return to form for Mignola. As anyone who follows me on Front Toward Gamer knows I've been severly critical of Mignola in a slew of previous reviews so its nice to read something of his that I could just strait up enjoy. I won't deny that the story works more for its atmosphere and style then the actual substance but sometimes that's all as story really needs to be and this is definitely one of those times. Hellboy: The Midnight Circus creates an immersive and dreamlike atmosphere that pulls you into the bizarre and unsettling world it creates for a great journey that skirts the thin line between dream and nightmare, highly recommended.
