    Fanlight Zone - Richard Coryell

    Aug 19, 2026

Only The Savage Are Left #3 is another gripping issue that pushes Ryder, Fionn, and Oaklynn deeper into a world where survival and morality are constantly at odds. Zack Kaplan keeps the tension sharp, while Stefano Raffaele and Thiago Rocha make the horror of this world feel vivid and emotionally grounded. With strong character work, brutal stakes, and another excellent cliffhanger, this continues to be one of the most compelling new series on shelves. This series should definitely be on your Pull List at this point, and if it isn’t, what are you waiting for? Don’t miss what may be the best series of the year. Read Full Review

    Nerd Initiative - Matthew Roth

Only The Savage Are Left #3 raises the stakes and begins to flesh out exquisite character development with Ryder and Fionn especially. The pages are full of piercing detail as the infection slowly tightens its grip on our main characters, leaving us with an epic cliffhanger. This isn’t just a story of an infection and killing your way to survive; it’s about so much more and has become a true staple in the “zombie and infected” genre that is making it to the cream of the crop. Comic Book Clique - Frank Jarome

Only the Savage Are Left #3 is another terrific issue in a book that has not been what I expected at all. It's a post-apocalyptic tale about a plague turning people into monsters, sure, but the real story here is the characters and how they do or don't hold onto their humanity as the world falls apart around them. I don't think there is a happy ending in the cards for Ryder and Oaklynn, but that doesn't mean I'm not rooting for them anyway. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke

Only the Savage Are Left #3 keeps the pressure on as Ryder and Oaklynn face increasingly desperate circumstances. Zack Kaplan continues to explore whether survival requires abandoning your humanity, even if Ryder's internal struggle gets a little repetitive. Stefano Raffaele and Thiago Rocha give the story a grounded, dangerous atmosphere, while the approaching marauders and long-awaited cliffhanger make this a tense chapter. Read Full Review

    Plot
Oaklynn is also infected and must perform the ritual of burning a monster to be cured, while Ryder and Oaklynn's father also seek a cure. Ryder is already beginning to experience the effects of the virus.

The story includes how Oaklynn and Ryder lived through the first days of the infection, where Oaklynn was more daring when using a weapon.

Oaklynn's father and Ryder are searching for a large, dangerous monster to cure themselves, but they are intercepted by the army leader who has Oaklynn captive. Oaklynn's father offers to be sacrificed for his daughter, but Ryder catches up to the leader and points a gun at him. At that moment, the giant monster appears.

A spectacular reimagining of a world in chaos d more
